INESSS in Quebec has issued a recommendation to transfer denosumab from the Exceptional Drugs section to the Regular section
June 23, 2026
INESSS (the Institut national d’excellence en santé et en services sociaux) in Quebec has issued a recommendation to transfer denosumab from the Exceptional Drugs section to the Regular section!
Denosumab is currently available only through the exceptional patient measure administered by the Régie de l’assurance maladie du Québec (RAMQ), resulting in an administrative burden.
Clinicians have noted inequities in access to denosumab for the treatment of osteoporosis between men and women, a distinction that is not supported by any scientific justification. There is therefore a need to standardize practice across Quebec and address the observed inequalities in access to treatment.
These changes are expected to meaningfully support both patients and the health care system.
