Memorandum of Understanding between Osteoporosis Canada and the Fragility Fracture Network
December 2, 2025
Osteoporosis Canada has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Fragility Fracture Network (FFN) to guide a two-year plan supporting orthogeriatric integration and best practices – partnering on joint projects with a focus on secondary fracture prevention.
The FFN is a global organization whose mandate is to turn a global call to action on fragility fractures into action. FFN’s 4 pillars are acute care, rehabilitation, secondary prevention and policy.
FFN Canada, launched at the FFN Global Congress in Porto in October 2025, has established a national framework to improve fragility fracture management across Canada’s ten provinces and three territories.
This partnership is part of a growing global community where FFN Canada is one of three new National FFNs with a network now reaching 31 countries leading the advancement of orthogeriatric care. Each national organization is a powerful driver of change — shaping policy, strengthening clinical practice, and bringing better outcomes to older people with fragility fractures.
Key 2025 initiatives include the ECHO Orthogeriatrics education program, a virtual community of practice supporting interprofessional orthogeriatric education and the implementation of Ontario Health’s Hip Fracture Quality Standards. FFN Canada will also advance orthogeriatric education and certification, strengthen links between professional bodies such as the Canadian Orthopaedic Association and Canadian Geriatric Society, and promote national communication across the continuum of care.
Osteoporosis Canada’s CMC 2026 – the Canadian Musculoskeletal Conference, a hybrid event for healthcare professionals is March 27, 2026. FFN Canada, independent of the MOU, will be holding a meeting following the CMC 2026 in an effort to coordinate healthcare provider educational activities.
