Carla PurcellBScN RN-AP CMSN(C)
Carla Purcell has been a Nurse Educator for medicine and surgery for more than 20 years and a Nurse Educator for DOME (Dartmouth Osteoporosis Multidisciplinary Education) program since the program began in 1998. In 2013, Carla became the first Fracture Liaison Service (FLS) nurse in Nova Scotia at Dartmouth General Hospital and when the program expanded to other sites in the province in 2016, she became the clinical nurse educator for FLS.
Carla works in partnership with Osteoporosis Canada to mentor new FLS nurses from across the country and has presented on osteoporosis and FLS at many national and provincial conferences in addition to sitting on several national committees related to FLS. Carla is a member of the Osteoporosis Canada Scientific Advisory Council (SAC) and continues to be clinical nurse educator and clinical support for the Nova Scotia provincial program. In 2022, Carla completed a Certificate in RN Prescribing which enhances the role of the FLS even further, allowing her to prescribe the medication for patients at high risk of fracture.
