Breast cancer requires treatments to manage and prevent possible recurrence of the disease. However, a side effect of these treatments can be breast cancer induced bone loss resulting in osteoporosis, putting the individual at risk for fragility fractures.

Join us with Dr. Carol Townsley, a general practitioner in oncology and medical director of the After Cancer Treatment Transition Clinic at Women’s College Hospital who will share information on breast cancer treatments and bone loss and the strategies that can be used to maintain bone health in this population.

Dr. Carol Townsley, MSc, CCFP

Dr. Carol Townsley is a general practitioner in oncology. She is medical director of the After Cancer Treatment Transition Clinic at Women’s College Hospital in Toronto. Dr. Townsley provides medical management of long and persistent effects from cancer, coordinates ongoing therapy and surveillance tests according to current guidelines, and communicates to the patient’s primary care physician regarding the cancer survivorship plan and guidelines for follow up care. She is involved in a wide variety of research in breast cancer survivorship. One of her main interests is in fear of cancer recurrence and supporting breast cancer patients post diagnosis.
