Support Group Facilitators work together with the Community Engagement Coordinators and are an integral part in the delivery of support services. Groups can take place monthly or bimonthly, where the Support Group Facilitator creates a confidential and welcoming environment for individuals living with osteoporosis and/or their care partners meet virtually to share their experiences and develop supportive relationships in a group setting. The time commitment for this opportunity is 3 – 5 hours per month.
Summary of Role
Work with the Community Engagement Coordinator (CEC) to manage and facilitate Virtual Support Groups
Reach out to these groups and plan the date and time for the presentation.
Inform, educate and guide to relevant resources through OC website and other relevant local bone health resources supported by OC
Complete post group survey
Advise CEC of any issues or concerns that require attention and follow up
Complete Volunteer Education Training
Attributes, Skills, Interest:
Presentation and facilitation skills in a group setting an asset
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a diverse range of people
An empathetic, flexible, non-judgmental approach and an understanding of people’s needs
Comfortable with Zoom technology, training provided
Fully bilingual in French and other languages an asset
Compassion and a non-judgemental approach to supporting people
Strong communication skills including active listening
Ability to facilitate discussions that focus on the participant voices living with and affected by osteoporosis
Commitment to model inclusion and respect for diversity
Background in nursing, social work, or related field is an asset
Hours and Commitment:
A minimum of one virtual Support Group monthly
Each virtual Support Group is booked for 1 hour
3 – 5 hours per month, including one hour meeting, administrative, and organizational time
Requirements:
Work within the guidelines of the Volunteer Program Policy and related organizational policies and procedures
Ensure the privacy, health and safety of participants, staff and volunteers
Group facilitation experience
Leadership skills
Background in nursing, healthcare, social work, or related field is an asset
Resumes are strongly encouraged, but not required
Act as a representative and ambassador for Osteoporosis Canada
