In October, a new guideline on the management of osteoporosis for Canadian healthcare providers, was published in the Canadian Medical Association Journal (CMAJ). The guideline is intended for use by the general practitioner in the prevention, diagnosis and management of osteoporosis.

Dr. Rowena Ridout

Dr. Rowena Ridout

Dr. Rowena Ridout is a physician in the UHN/MSH Osteoporosis Programme and is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Endocrinology & Metabolism at the University of Toronto.  She has been involved in clinical research in osteoporosis including the attainment and maintenance of peak bone mass, the treatment of steroid-induced osteoporosis in children and interventions in the fracture clinic.

Dr. Ridout is currently the Chair of Osteoporosis Canada’s Scientific Advisory Council (SAC) and has served on a number of committees, including 6 years as the medical advisor to COPN.  She is also a member of the 2023 Clinical Practice Guideline Steering Committee.  Dr. Ridout is actively involved in medical education at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
