Osteoporosis Canada (OC), a registered charity, is the only national organization providing services to people who have, or are at risk for, osteoporosis. OC is a volunteer driven organization which works to educate, empower and support individuals and communities in the risk reduction and treatment of osteoporosis.

Community Engagement Coordinator
Manitoba – Remote

Osteoporosis Canada is searching for a skilled Community Engagement Coordinator who can work from a dedicated home office space in the province of Manitoba.

Reporting to the Manager, Community Engagement, the Community Engagement Coordinator (CEC) located in Manitoba will oversee the Osteoporosis Canada (OC) volunteer and education program in primarily in Manitoba and Saskatchewan with support in other areas as needed including the recruitment, training, and coordination of volunteers.

Responsibilities include attracting and retaining volunteers whose interests and values match those of OC; education and training of volunteers for the Fracture Prevention Education volunteer program, establishing and liaising with government and community partners, delivering educational and support programming.

The successful candidate will be based in Manitoba.

Role & Accountabilities (but are not limited to):

  • With support execute the annual volunteer plan and budget for Manitoba and Saskatchewan under the direction of the Manager, Community Engagement and Director of Fund Development and MARCOM
  • Become familiar with Volunteer Management policies and procedures, which guide national and provincial volunteer programs to align with the organization’s objectives and values, and with the guiding principles and standards of practice as set by the Canadian Code for Volunteer Involvement, including risk assessment
  • Coordinate volunteer recruitment and hiring process by creating position descriptions, advertising, and promoting opportunities, interviewing, matching with appropriate roles and often providing orientation, onboarding, training, and support.
  • Identify and assess volunteer needs and opportunities to meet operational and partnership requirements and enhance program delivery services in Manitoba and Saskatchewan
  • Develop, promote, and maintain a wide range of volunteer opportunities
  • Conduct training, provide orientation materials and ongoing support and guidance for volunteers
  • Cultivate a positive and supportive atmosphere by recognizing volunteer efforts, assisting volunteers with their responsibilities, and evaluating the volunteer experience
  • Organize and participate in volunteer recognition programs and special events
  • Develop and maintain relations with other volunteer organizations
  • Manage volunteer policies, procedures, and standards of volunteer service
  • Maintain database of volunteers and projects
  • Work to implement volunteer-based partnership programs together with the Director, Fund Development and MARCOM
  • Develop and implement effective strategies to recruit, onboard, train and retain volunteers
  • Communicate and build relationship with community and corporate partners, donors, and volunteers
  • Together with the Manager, Community Engagement coordinate bi-annual training and/or regional meetings
  • Report quarterly on agreed upon metrics
  • Provides day to day supervision and training of volunteers
  • Encourage and oversee the participation of prospective volunteers in the Volunteer Education Training (VET) Program
  • Establish and liaise with community partners to deliver programming and support services
  • Host online programs, support groups and volunteer trainings
  • Other duties as required 

Knowledge & Skills Requirements

  • Minimum 1 – 2 years’ experience in volunteer management and program delivery in a health-related industry
  • Certification in Volunteer Management is an asset
  • A self-starter with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to manage volunteers across two provinces and liaise with remote staff to meet organizational deliverables
  • Comfortable using technology with the ability to confidently present to groups virtually and in-person.
  • Excellent organizational, coordination and facilitation skills
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to write and communicate well-defined reports to management and external stakeholders
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to deal with a diverse range of people
  • Experience of managing or coordinating projects and volunteers
  • The ability to deal with information in a confidential manner and respond with sensitivity
  • Administrative and computer skills, and an ability to maintain records and produce clear written and oral reports
  • Strong understanding of volunteer database management systems
  • Proactive problem solver, solution oriented, displays sound decision-making and judgment; with a positive, “can do” attitude.
  • Experience of working across different sectors and developing links with other agencies
  • The ability to deal with information in a confidential manner and respond with sensitivity
  • An empathy with volunteers and an understanding of their needs
  • The capacity to inspire and motivate others

FULL-TIME

SALARY: $50,000 per annum plus benefits

This position will work remotely in Manitoba.

Work Environment:

  • Ability to work flexible hours; some occasional evenings and weekends will be required
  • Ability to travel with valid driver’s license
