Strata is a dish that has layers of bread with an egg custard. It is a great make ahead dish for entertaining over the holidays. In this strata, multigrain bread is a wonderful match to leftover turkey. This is great served for breakfast, lunch or dinner!

3 cups (750 mL) chopped cooked Canadian turkey
12 slices bakery style multigrain bread
2 tbsp (25 mL) Dijon mustard
1/2 tsp (2 mL) pepper
1 cup (250 mL) whole berry cranberry sauce
2 1/2 cups (625 mL) milk
5 eggs
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 tbsp (25 mL) chopped fresh sage or 1 tbsp (15 mL) crumbled dried sage
1/4 tsp (1 mL) salt


  1. Spread half of the slices with mustard. Sprinkle with half of the pepper. Spread remaining slices with cranberry sauce and top with turkey. Place mustard coated slices over turkey. Place into a large 15 x 9 inch (3 L) casserole dish. Set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together milk, eggs, garlic, sage, salt and remaining pepper. Pour over sandwiches to cover. Wrap with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 1 hour or up to 4 hours. Unwrap and gently press sandwiches down into egg mixture. Bake in 375°F (190°C) oven for about 40 minutes or until golden and knife inserted in centre comes out clean. Let stand 5 minutes before serving.
