Calcitonin in the News

Important Changes to the Availability and Conditions of Use for Drugs Containing Calcitonin

Calcitonin nasal spray for the treatment of osteoporosis is no longer available in Canada because of new information on the possibility of a slight increase in cancer risk. In addition, calcitonin nasal spray is not as effective for the treatment of osteoporosis as other medications as it only reduces the risk of spine fractures and not other types of fragility fractures. If you were using calcitonin nasal spray, talk to your doctor about other available treatment options that are more effective and that best suit you.
